Thai Union Alternative Protein is a new Business Unit within Thai Union Group, with the objective to build the Alternative Protein segment. Launched in 2021, it has developed an exciting new line of nutritious plant-based seafood offerings that are specially developed to fit customer requirements by Thai Union's cutting edge Global Innovation Center (GIC). We just got started, with more exciting developments underway.

The GIC develops new technologies to enable our innovations, and with our development teams, we translate these into unique solutions for our Thai Union Alternative Protein customers. At Thai Union, we aspire to challenge ourselves, to unlock the full value of alternative protein products by thinking boldly, questioning the status quo, and taking calculated risks to spark revolutionary changes in the way alternative seafood is procured, produced, packaged, and consumed.
Combining diverse backgrounds
The GIC employs more than 110 scientists and engineers, coming from over 15 different renowned universities from around the globe, with over 35 percent holding a PhD degree in various fields such as Food Science, Food Engineering, Biotechnology, Nutrition and Chemistry. A significant share of our scientists and engineers are dedicated to developing the various Alternative Protein solutions.
Thai Union believes this unique combination of various backgrounds, interests, ages, genders, and ethnicities yields powerful and forward-thinking approaches and propels our success. The GIC's state-of-the-art facilities include laboratories for product and technology development and a pilot plant, which are both fully equipped for multidisciplinary research in a well-controlled environment.

Our history
Founded in 1977. Thai Union has a rich history of commitment to seafood expertise and innovation. From our beginnings as a canned tuna processor and exporter, we built our business on excellence in customer service and product quality. We now have an OEM international business and a global portfolio of consumer-favorite brands. Our ambitious growth plans are rooted in a commitment to sustainability and forward-looking innovations.
